Many consider wildflowers to be the most exciting and rewarding of all flowers. The world’s most popular wildflower California Poppy is the state flower of California. Plants grow 12″-18″ (30-46 cm) tall, bearing bright orange 2″-3″ (5-7.5 cm) blossoms with satiny petals and finely cut gray-green foliage. Flowers open in day time and close at night. The profusely blooming plants are easy to grow. Culture: Start indoors transplanting outdoors in early spring before flowering. Outdoors sow seed in sunny area in most any well drained soil where they are to grow. Old foliage and stems must be allowed to ripen on the plant, then removed to make way for the growth of the new foliage in the fall. Self sows.
