Also known as Garden Heliotrope. It is native to Asia and Europe, has naturalized in northeastern America, and is extensively cultivated in Belgium, The Netherlands, France, Germany, Eastern Europe, Japan, and the United States. Valerian is just as much an attractive flowering plant, as it is a useful, medicinal herb. The sweetly scented, small, white to light pink flowers will bloom through the summer months, attracting an array of beneficial insects to the garden, such as butterflies, bumblebees and honeybees.
