Also known as the Early Coreless carrot, Nantes carrots are an heirloom variety that was developed in France and were popular in the late 1800s. Nantes carrots are not grown commercially due to their delicate nature but are extremely popular for home gardening and cultivation on a small scale for farmers markets. In the 1850’s, Henri Vilmorin developed the Nantes carrot. It is named after the city of Nantes, the largest city in Brittany, France. In 1885, Henri Vilmorin first described the Nantes carrot as having a near perfect cylindrical root with smooth skin and entirely edible near-red flesh, both sweet and mild in flavor. 65 days.
