Purple Coneflowers are characteristically prairie plants. Native to the eastern United States. The flower head has a prominent, spiny, brown central cone that is surrounded by light purple petal-like rays. The leaves are lanceolate-to-ovate in shape with pronounced tapered ends. The stalk is robust and coarsely textured. These flowers are rich in nectar and very popular with both bees and butterflies. Hummingbirds also enjoy coneflowers, and birds like finches eat the seeds.
