Finely cut, dark green curled outer leaves with leafy full hearts blanch creamy white. Low-lying plant habit, spreading 12″”–18″” (30–45 cm) in diameter. If you enjoy salad, be sure and plant a row of endive. Looks like lettuce, but the flavor is somewhat sharper. Tolerates hot weather and frost. Can be grown in containers.
Culture: Sow in fertile well tilled sandy soil in full sun late April to early June. Keep plants well watered. May need blanching, if so, tie outer leaves up.
Harvest: Blanched hearts and leaves are eating quality in 60–90 days.
