Green, broad oval leaflets form a dense, yet delicate backdrop of large, showy sprays of flaming red flowers followed by foot long red pods. Pick the pods often to promote continued blooms. Vines quickly and brilliantly cover porch, arbor, fence, trellis, walls and other garden structures. Culture: Direct sow five or six seeds into warm (55°F–13°C) moist, well-drained soil, 1″ (2.5 cm) deep. Place seeds no more than 3″ (7.5 cm) apart from support. When seedlings sprout, thin to 3–4 plants. Tip: For culinary use; for young pods – Harvest 70 days after sowing. For shell beans – Harvest 115 days after sowing.
