You can’t beat Portulaca if you are looking for a colorful, low growing plant or temporary ground cover. Bright, glossy, semi-double flowers in red, pink, yellow and coral, form a carpet of color over attractive spreading plants with fat needle leaves. Culture: Warmer regions; seeds can be sown in early fall for early spring blooms. Cooler regions; sow in early spring and will bloom in mid-summer. Easy to grow hardy annual or tender perennial that thrives in hot, dry slopes, rock gardens and in baskets. Prefers humusy soil. Often self sows.
