A beautiful red loose leaf can be picked whenever leaves form. Pick when the leaves are younger rather than waiting so the taste doesn’t become bitter. Early maturing, sweet and flavorful. Is slow to bolt. Cut leaves before lettuce starts to bolt and becomes bitter in the heat and long days of summer. Culture: Lettuce thrives in cool weather and may bolt to seed in hot weather. When seeding, cover lightly, with no more than ¼” (6 mm) of soil and firm gently. Keep soil moist to promote germination. Provide light shade for summer sowing. Nutrition: Rich in fiber and potassium, with moderate amount of vitamin A.
