Closed bush type plants produce white skinned patty pan type fruits. Circular 3” (7.5 cm) deep x 4”-9” (10-22.5 cm) diameter, slightly flattened with distinctly scalloped edge. Most popular in the eastern home garden. Culture: Direct sow seed into very rich soil as squash is a voracious feeder. Sow 6-8 seeds into groups (hills) 6’-8’ (180-240 cm) apart. Thin to 2-3 plants per group. Fertilize and water regularly when lateral runners begin to spread. Harvest: Pick continuously when fruit is 3” (7.5 cm) across. Nutrition: Supplies several minerals and vitamins. Uses: Raw in salads and with dips or steamed, fried and baked. Freezes well.
