Best known as Summer Savory it is a native of the Mediterranean that has been cherished as a culinary herb in the western world since ancient times. It was also one of the earliest herbs brought from England by the original American colonists. Used in poultry stuffing and stews, and it is a key ingredient in herbes de Provence, a French seasoning. An added benefit to the Summer Savory plant is that it repels insects as a companion plant in the garden. Having peppery flavored leaves and flowers ranging in color from white to lavender, which attracts honey bees.
