It forms a slowly spreading mound and their common name may be referring to how they can slowly spread and “blanket” an area. The genus Gaillardia was dedicated in 1788 in honor of the French botanist Gaillard de Charentonneau. Plants are easy to grow, heat and drought tolerant, and rabbit and deer resistant.
